A window into the life of one of the most well-known writers of the Victorian era...
Oscar WildeThis section of my website is dedicated to research on the life of Oscar Wilde. Most people know his name for his most successful work, The Picture of Dorian Gray, but Mr. Wilde was also a writer of poetry and plays. Although his writing was his lifelong pursuit, he was possibly more well-known for his flamboyant personality and dress. He was often criticized for the many ways that he challenged Victorian society's principles, leading to mocking articles, caricatures, and cartoons in many magazines and newspapers. Of course, the most difficult time of his life was in the late 1880's, when he was tried and convicted of sodomy and sentenced to two years of prison, followed by exile. Although this dark time of his life was near the end, there was much more to him than his prison sentence.
